TIP FOR TRIP: BANSKÁ ŠTIAVNICA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

| |
,,Slovakia has a sea, a rocky sea, but it is an absolute European uniqueness. Besides that there is also thermal water (year-round thermal spa in Pohájska) which, with its composition, compares to that of the Dead Sea in Israel. For a couple of crowns, you can pan gold and even keep it, and at some spots free of charge visit Pilgrim localities with beautiful historical buildings. All the while, you will not be overwhelmed with services, neither will you be chased by obtrusive shopkeepers trying to push their goods into your hands.
The time of services is only coming to this country. Slovakia is marked more by peace than commercialism, but it is a gorgeous country!”
This is how Slovakia was described by Sára, an international consultant for tourism. If you as well are awaiting a guest from abroad, we invite you to an excursion around Banská Štiavnica.
Tajchs from Štiavnica
In the vicinity of Banská Štiavnica, there is an abundance of lakes - Dolnohodrušské, Počúvadlianske, Kopanické, Richnavské, Vindšachtské and others labeled as mirrors in the middle of mountains... The unique system of valley water reservoirs – “tajchs” began to be built in the 16th century. Thanks to this system, mining technology in the region of Banská Štiavnica belonged to one of the most progressive ones in Europe.
The Slovak mining museum
Banská Štiavnica once belonged to the richest towns of Slovakia and was the main producer of silver in the Hungarian Empire. The glorious past is revived in the Slovak mining museums. Starý zámok, originally a roman church rebuilt into a stronghold against the Turks, offers expositions of world-renowned pipe making, gunman targets and weapons. An old saying goes: “the one who sees the city of walls will honor him until his death”. Nový Zámok from the 16th century offers an exposition of anti-Turk battles and an excellent overview of the city and its surrounding. Two kilometers from the city in the direction of Štiavnické Bane is the Bartolomej tunnel. You get a coat, a helmet and a lantern in your hand and will visit the underground with hand-carved corridors - kresanice, with wooden and metal mangers for loading the ore, mining carts - huntíky, underground horse gápel (a unique towing device), a wooden ventilator and you will also see the largest collection of mining locomotives in Slovakia.
Panning gold – don’t ski – cradle!
In Hondruša Hámre, you can purchase a short training of gold panning from the gold panners.
Sinfully forgotten is the Calvary near Banská Štiavnica with a gorgeous climb of the Stations of the Cross. Its current state is not too representative, but one needs to see it. There are projections that it will be a unique object once again in the future. You will probably meet several foreigners, who come to admire what they do not have at home, and if they did the entire world would know.
Hunting manor in Svätý Anton is not just about hunting. You will also find in it some beautiful exhibits typical also for the outdoor museum of Slovak villages. Its park practically entices for a summer picnic. Simply take a blanket, a basket and breathe...
Vyhne – thermal water, sea
At the end of June, a new aqua park will be opened in Vyhne. Another attraction is the Kamenné more (Rocky sea) and photographic trophies like travertine from Vyhne or the hidden small church under the Termál hotel.
Let yourself be guided. We searched and degusted for you. Details are important. If information is checked, we guarantee an excellent experience.
