Skalica became a royal town in the 14. th century. Its religious life was influenced by several religious orders. The most valuable sightseeings of the town are the st. Jurajs Rotund, Franciscan Monastery – famous for making Skalický trdelník (a sweet, cylindrical, baked dough speciality from Záhorie), St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Brothers of Mercy Church and Monastery, Cultural house – art noveau building /created by arch. D. Jurkovič/, the St. F. Xaver Jesuit Church, the crypts in the the St. F. Xaver Jesuit Church.
